Rain in August

August is usually the month when we have searing temperatures and crunchy grass.  Not this year.

The US National Weather Service in Huntsville tells us that a new rainfall record was set here yesterday.  The previous record was 1.62 inches set in 1952.  Yesterday, it rained 2.04.  It fell in just a few minutes, making a lovely lake in my back yard.

The drainage ditch behind the house was overflowing, but it ran off quickly. Our lake only lasted about an hour. It is always possible we will get another one soon; there is rain in the forecast for the next several days.
