Hymns

We have been privileged to attend many, many concerts by the Kerry Gilbert Band, but last Saturday's concert was the best that has ever been. The show featured old-time hymns; the band members using voices and harmony for music. After it was over, people gathered and talked about how spiritually uplifting it had been. If you have read this blog before, you know I am a huge fan of traditional church music. Some of the classic hymns that are sung today  have been changing hearts for well over a hundred years, and their message is just as fresh and relevant now as they were when they were first written. Many of my earliest good memories contain hymns: my mama singing  them while she rocked the baby, siblings sitting on the front porch after dark harmonizing , arriving late to the open-windowed country church and hearing  blended voices floating in the night air.   It makes me sad that some children today have never heard these hymns, like  R...
