Faith, Folklore, and Friends

We had some precipitation last night at class time, but thankfully, it was all liquid, and everyone was able to come to class. We had a good night of sewing. Our scrap pile in the middle of the table doesn't seem to be getting any smaller. There are so many things that can be made with scraps; never throw any scraps away! Pictured is a sampling of  scrap quilts, showing some different ways that scraps can be used. This class is made possible by a grant from the Alabama State Council on the Arts.  Thanks!

Last Saturday, we drove to Hamilton for the Jerry Brown Arts Festival. There was a huge crowd and we had to park a long way from the building.  Thankfully, there were three police vans shuttling people from their cars to the building.  It was my first time in a police van. We go to a lot of art festivals.  Because I don't want to run out of room or money,  I have to limit myself to one item to bring home with me. This is what I bought at this festival. It was made by Scott McQueen of Northport, Alabama.  I loved everything in his booth, but this one called my name.  It was a hard decision, but I'm happy this is living in my house now.

Not my image; source unknown I have a love/hate relationship with daylight savings time.   I hate getting used to it when it is new.  You can bet there will be a lot of people late for Bible Study tomorrow and for work on Monday.   I love the light in the evenings.  A couple of friends who can't drive after dark are ecstatic; they will be able to do things that they miss in the winter. After warm weather gets here, we will be able to stay outside until it is almost time for bed.  After two weeks of missing that extra hour, I will love it. The best thing about daylight savings time is that it signals the return of warm weather and those long lazy days of summer.  Bring it on!

Just a reminder that the Jerry Brown Arts Festival is this weekend.  As of right now, there is no snow, freezing rain, or ice predicted. This would be a wonderful place to go to get rid of that cabin fever we have. Hopefully, I will see you there!

  Not my photo; source unknown March 5 brings us the Full Worm Moon, the full moon before the spring equinox.   This full moon is also known as the Full Sap Moon, the Lenten Moon, and according to the Dakota Sioux, the Moon When Eyes are Sore from the Bright Snow. It is thought the name Full Worm Moon comes from the Algonquin tribes who lived from New England to Lake Superior.  At this time of year, the earth warms enough for earth worms to appear and start digesting dirt.  This worm activity naturally brings robins looking for their breakfast.  We see the robins and know that spring can't be far away.   As I am writing this at 6:05 on March 5, the ground is covered with a layer of ice and it is still falling from the sky.  Our roads are skating rinks, and our temperatures will probably not rise above freezing today.  If a robin finds a worm today, it may be like eating a little icicle.
